Storytelling remains the oldest and most effective form of communication, taking various shapes since the beginning of humanity. The Finest City Improv has teamed up with The Narrators to embrace the tradition and takes it back to its roots — an audience and a story from the heart.
Expert improvisers are trained to embrace off-the-cuff storytelling, but the storytellers in this show aren’t all trained in improv. They’re speaking from the heart and sharing their values, their truths and their memories in a very open way.
Kendall Burdett joins The Narrators San Diego Co-Host Robert Rutherford to embrace the vulnerability of honest storytelling. Audience volunteers join them on stage to tell five-minute stories — 300 seconds without being interrupted based on suggestions from the crowd. Subjects range from awkward and hilarious to heartbreaking and inspired. To participate, sign-up at the door the night of the show.
The Narrators, founded by comedian and actor Andrew Orvedahl in Denver, promotes the art of storytelling and provides community access to storytelling events. Last year, The Narrators found a home in San Diego every second Tuesday of each month at Tiger! Tiger! Tavern. Now, The Narrators unite with Finest City Improv, one group of comedic geniuses to another, to tell stories and cultivate an atmosphere of support and joyful honesty.
We’ve all worried about being judged or getting a bad reaction when we speak honestly. This raw experience offers five minutes to say whatever pops into your head with zero judgments – only applause and acceptance.Kendall Burdett, Co-host
